As green as it gets

Creating sustainable urban districts is at the heart of Aurelis’ philosophy. As an innovative project developer, we are committed to transforming former industrial sites, while respecting local flora and fauna. Europaviertel was built on the site of a disused goods and shunting yard. Aurelis is unleashing the great potential of this brownfield site by breathing new life into the area.

Protecting the world around us is high on our agenda; for example we have successfully rehomed the common wall lizards that lived among the tracks in the old goods yard to a dedicated 7.40 hectare biotope. In doing so, we have created a new habitat for these reptiles at the western edge of Europaviertel. Joining them are the blue-winged grasshopper and a rare plant species, gray hair-grass, which have also been relocated from the original site.

Europaviertel receives DGNB platinum certification

The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) announced that Europaviertel West would be among the first five urban districts in Europe to receive certification in platinum for sustainability. The organization praised the project for its eco-friendliness, cost-efficiency, the quality of its social and cultural offerings, and its cutting-edge technology. A range of criteria were taken into account, including the conservation of water and soil, the positive overall impact on the wider district, noise and sound insulation, energy efficiency, and the traffic and transport situation.
